Discover La Maison de la Grange, a charming heritage Chambres d’Hôtes in the Creuse countryside, where historic character, warm hospitality and authentic rural France come together.
February 2026 marked an exciting milestone for La Maison de la Grange. After months of careful restoration, planning, and countless hours spent preserving the character of our historic village home, we are delighted to welcome guests from around the world.
Built in 1800 and nestled in the peaceful village of Saint-Martial-le-Mont in the beautiful Creuse countryside, our home offers something increasingly rare: an authentic French village experience where history, hospitality, and slower living come together.
My husband David and I chose this remarkable house because we fell in love with its story. Rather than transforming it into a modern hotel, we have carefully restored it while preserving its original character. Antique furniture, stone walls, oak floors, traditional fireplaces, and thoughtful modern comforts—including newly installed air conditioning in selected guest areas—allow visitors to enjoy the romance of historic France without sacrificing comfort. Every room has its own personality, and every guest becomes part of the continuing story of this home.
Through this blog, I hope to share much more than information about our Chambres & Tables d’Hôtes. You’ll discover the hidden treasures of the Creuse, local markets and festivals, seasonal recipes from our table, restoration projects, antiques and brocante finds, beautiful villages, walking routes, and practical travel advice to help you experience France as a local rather than simply a visitor.
Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning for another stay, I look forward to welcoming you to La Maison de la Grange and sharing the charm of historic rural France with you.
À bientôt from rural France,
Helen Roos
